Junzaburo Hareruya and his troop of comedians are really like a Family “Ichiza”. He is the head of a moving theater who travel around the country giving theatrical performances.

He lost his parents when he was a child and was raised in an orphanage. He spent every day’s life without any dream or goal to reach and one day, he remembered when his father brings him to a place where it was an ancient.

The man remembered about the “Ichiza” family and used his money to build a new theatre and planned to call Ichiza’s members for his great Premiere..

But all the actors died because of a huge earthquake who destroyed the theater 40 years ago.

The premiere of the theatrical representation speaks about the day of the earthquake, and we learn the truth about Ichiza Family . We learn that that the narrator is the theater’s head who died 40 years ago.

This man wanted to meet his parents and his “Ichiza, actor’s family”, produced a theatrical representation.

This theatrical representation speaks about beloved persons who died, and living persons who tried to live managing their doubts and interrogations, trying to fulfill their dreams and their goal in life.

1 :
A completely new concept of theatrical stage.
A man holding a guitare appears on the stage.
He seems to be waiting for the play to start, looking at the curtain.
The theatre lights turn off one after the other.
The curtain opens suddenly.
We can see a dressing room.
Hareruya’s family is reunited.
The theatre owner speaks with Junzaburô Hareruya and his comedians.
Everyone is concentrating on the stage’s preparations.

2 :
The owner is having his opening speech in front of the public.
Mr Blank Nagai opens the curtain and we can see the stage and Chun Mayuzumi stands there in the center of the spot lights.
Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony walks on stage.
“I don’t remember to have doing bad things, so why are you leaving me, My Hair ?
I did my best but I hate hair. Really a God’s Sin”.

Chun Mayuzumi sang her song.
Shintarô Make walks on stage.
Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony walks on stage.
“Even if I am beaten down and that’s hurt a lot, please hit me more and more. Pain, don’t go away, please !”

M2 : “Woman’s Whip” Shintarô Make
The stage is on a “showtime” mood with these two songs.

Back to the dressing room.
The staff comes back to the dressing room followed by Shintarô Make who sang his song.
Fuwatari does his salutations to all members.

Fuwatari is seeing Hareruya and his wife dancing on stage.
At the same moment we can hear comedians speaking, as usual.
They speak about their journey from town to town.
It makes Fuwatari laugh. He really seems to enjoy the moment.

Blank Nagai, Hareruya and his wife come back to the dressing room.
When Hareruya and his wife argue with each other, Pitan always talks about his childhood.

Pitan : Don’t be drunk when you’re drinking ! You know that it’s always the same situation but you can’t control yourself. I’ll sing the great distress of people who can’t stop drinking even knowing that they are screwing up their life.

Pitan walks on stage.

M4 : “Ballad of a fallen life” Pitan

Back to the dressing room.
Fuwatari and Mori are playing shooting each other with rubber bands.
We can hear the voice of Chinichi Mori speaking with other comedians.
Uwaki stands up in front of Fuwatari.

Hitoshi Uwaki walks on stage.
Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony walks on stage.

Chinichi Mori walks on stage as a narrator.

Hareruya was arrested by the Police and Mao was waiting on the side of a bridge.

The police inspector speaks with a young police officer.

We learn about Hareruya and Mao’s past events.

Mao give an umbrella to Hareruya.

Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony appears.

“It’s too late for regrets. You have to accept what you have done and accept a new life in prison.

M 7 : “I’ll begin a new life in prison” Hareruya and Mao

Hareruya is arrested by the police after his song

Gorô Ninomiya (Blank) tries to get some information.

M8 : “Musical intermission”

Gorô Ninomiya (Blank) is talking to the police inspector.
He knows the past of these two persons and beg the inspector to let him speak with them.
He’s sure that he can help them.
Hareruya disappears with the police inspector.

Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony appears on the stage as the narrator.

Maô give her resignation to Gorô Ninomiya (Blank) and gives him her umbrella and her coat.
Blank takes the umbrella and the coat.

Mori appears and starts describing what happened after.

After Hareruya did his time in jail, he finally got out of prison and came to see Blank Nagai, who had taken care of his wife and his kid.
Hareruya and his wife left the yakuza’s underground world behind them and came back to Blank’s little theatre to study acting and live honestly. They finally created their own theatre.
Hareruya and his wife’s performance was so good and highly appraised that the theater became more and more popular every day.
They even accepted homeless people in their “family” and everyone was supporting each other during the hardest moments.

Blank and Mao were about these difficult moments.
Blank put away the broom, took alcohol and some hot water, and a mike.
Blank pours some alcohol for Mao...
After he checked that Mao started drinking, Blank left the stage.

When you think that’s everything is over, you have to sing a song with your beloved one

Hareruya walks on stage.

M9 : “Let’s do some gags together” Mao

After the song, Blank took some alcohol and hot water, and a mike.
Mao is still on the stage

Chinichi Mori, the Master of Ceremony walks on stage.

Even if you think that you’ll never get old, you’ll never win against the years.
Please listen to this song that it always reminds us the sad truth of life. Body can’t stand forever.

M10 : “Body can’t stand forever” Hareruya

Stage’s side
Fuwatari is looking at Hareruya.
He really wants to ask those two a lot of questions but he seemed unexpectedly anxious.
He has the strange feeling that something terrible was about to happen.

Mori appears with a mike.

Uwaki : “You’re not obliged to wear them, but it’s okay too when you have them, but for God’s sake, what I am speaking about ?”

M11 : “My sweet glove” Chinichi Mori

(Mori puts gloves on his hands, and sing his song looking at his gloves).

The stage lights turn off after the song.

When the lights turn on again, we are back to the dressing room.

Hareruya’s face is quite surprised.
One complete set of the stage is missing.
Theatre’s owner and “family’s” members starts arguing.
Family is starting having doubt on Fuwatari.

Deep silence.

Fuwatari decided to speak and explain the situation.

“I’ll try to fix the problem” !

Hareruya criticizes the members about their behavior against Fuwatari.
Everybody is reassured by Hareruya’s words and leaves the stage.

Dressing Room is calm again.

M12 : “Sketch . Recording”

Fuwatari and Hareruya are alone now
Fuwatari would like to tell a lot to Hareruya but he does not speak.
After some time, a trembling voice is coming from his mouth.
He wants to talk but his mouth remains finally silent.
Unable to control his feelings, he starts speaking.

Fuwatari tells Hareruya his thoughts and feelings.
Fuwatari shows no weakness
Fuwatari wants to make a new show with every one of the Family.
Fuwatari shows a large smile, standing on the stage.

M13 : “The march of 365 paths”

Fuwatari “The Ichiza Family takes a steam train and goes over the mountains, continuing its journey !

While everyone is singing all together, Fuwatari collapses suddenly.
Everyone stands still.
Hareruya continues singing and other members start standing in front of Fuwatari, hiding him.
At the end of the song…

Blank closes the curtain and walks away from the stage.

10 minutes of intermission

Blank opens the curtain

Dressing Room, we can see Fuwatari laying on a sofa and Mao taking care of him on his side.
Ichiza members are looking at him, anxiously.
Hareruya tells them to come back to the stage.
Hareruya and Mao are taking care of Fuwatari.
Fuwatari wakes up suddenly,
Fuwatari looks at Mao and Hareruya as if he woke up after a dream.
Hareruya and Mao fells somehow relieved.
Hareruya goes back to the stage.

We can hear singing voices from the stage.

M14 : “Zundoko section”

Mao stays with Fuwatari in the dressing room.
We can hear the different songs from the stage.
They hear these songs quietly.

Fuwatari starts coughing again
We still hear songs from the stage.
Fuwatari looks at Mao and he starts asking something he always wanted to ask
This moment is between Mao and Fuwatari.
Fuwatari speaks about his collapse.
He tells her that he’s dying from a disease.
Unexpectedly, he doesn’t seem to be afraid of the situation.

Mao is staring at Fuwatari.
Mao is realizing that her son is not there.

Clap sound

All members come back to the dressing room
They look at Mao and Fuwatari and look anxious…

A huge sound is coming from the ground
A sound of destruction

At that moment, Hareruya recovers his lost memory
Everyone has recovered his memory.

Fuwatari told them that 40 years ago, a huge earthquake destroyed the theater and all the family died.

The only survivor was Hareruya and Mao’s son, the owner of the theater, who stands here.

Everyone understands the situation. Hareruya regains his mind and works on producing a new play reuniting all family members.

Fuwatari looks down the ground, remaining quiet.
He walks away from the stage.

The light turns on and we can see a stage full of smoke.

M15 : “Life is like a standard pop song”

We live, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying
Hareruya’s life is like a standard pop song.
He sings with a fresh and sweet voice.
Fuwatari is staring at him.
Once the song is over, every member shows off to the audience and begins to leave one after the other. Only Mao and Hareruya remains on stage.
We can see their silhouette.
They look at Fuwatari and start disappearing, raising hands saying good bye to him.

We can only hear the silence, as if everything was finally only a dream.
Fuwatari is alone.
He walks on stage.

M16 : “Cavalleria Rusticana” BGM
(Opera music composed by Pietro Mascagni)

Fuwatari still stands in the center of the stage (feeling both happy and nostalgic at the same time)
He is so moved by this miracle that he starts crying.

He moves toward the audience, greet them, and starts his speech.

He closes the curtain of the stage and shows off to the audience a last time.

When the curtain opens again, all Hareruya family members are on stage.
